Can it get any hotter? We’re afraid to ask.

June bowed out with another scorching day Saturday. Temperatures recorded at the National Weather Service automated station at Lee Gilmer Memorial Airport in Gainesville reached a high of 101 degrees.

It’s not expected to get any better today, with a forecast high of 102 under cloudless, sun-baked skies. A heat advisory remains in effect for all of North Georgia as temperatures are expected to hit triple digits for a third day.

In addition, a code red air quality alert is issued for areas closer to metro Atlanta. People with respiratory ailments and other health conditions should take extra precautions.

Robert Garcia at the NWS regional office in Peachtree City said temperatures around Gainesville may depend on how close you are to Lake Lanier, which cools the surrounding air a bit.
