From patrons, to organizers to vendors who sold out early, the opening day of Lilburn’s Farmers’ Market was deemed a success!
Though the weather made organizers nervous at about the 2:00 p.m. mark during set up, the rains and clouds gave way to moderate temperatures under sunny skies by the 4:00 p.m. opening. Assistant Market Manager Andrea Brannen said they were all soaked at 2:00 p.m. But volunteers recalled the first year that brought a “frog strangling” rain for the 17 initial vendors and were all smiles at providential weather for today’s opening.
At this time, there are around 40 vendors committed each week throughout the summer. This first week, many of them sold out after an early rush. Farmer John, who brought tomatoes this week, says that next week he’ll have a bigger crop as well as some Silver Queen corn.
