This past Friday, as triple-digit temperatures arrived in Brookhaven and Chamblee, the Brookhaven Patch team decided to ascertain if it really was hot enough outside to fry an egg.

The results were less than impressive.

However, after receiving a tip from a commenter well-known to Brookhaven Patch readers, named HamBurger, we decided to try again, following these instructions:

“First, use the correct pan. A well seasoned cast iron pan is best, if not available, use an aluminum based non stick pan. Let the pan sit on the asphalt road (not concrete drive) that has been well heated by direct sun for an hour or so. Best time is 3:30 pm or so. No shadows are most important. Protect with car, etc. Once well heated, a little PAM or butter in the pan prior to adding the egg to the pan and you are ready.
