Residents were able to vote for the local park online or by checking in via foursquare, and more than 3 million votes were cast for Swift-Cantrell, landing it in 5th place when the contest ended. The $15,000 consolation prize was awarded at random to a park placing from 4th-25th.
“It’s fantastic,” Mayor Mark Mathews said. “It’s really neat to have enough votes and enough recognition to get us into that competition and in the top 10.”
According to contest rules, the grant can be used to help restore, rebuild or enhance activity areas inparks where people can play and be active. City officials plan to use the money to purchase and install exercise stations along the park’s trails that also
