Today, May 6, marks the day many local residents have been waiting for: the ability to buy beer, wine and whatever else you fancy in Tucker and the rest of unincorporated DeKalb County.
One small problem. No less than three of Tucker’s package stores have closed down within the past few months, leaving a dearth of retail locations in the area for booze shopping.
The first to go was the Embry Hills Bottle Shop, one of the best in the area with a large inventory and competitive prices. It shut its doors abruptly last winter. The reason? A dispute over rent.
Next up was Tucker Package, on Lawrenceville Highway across the street from Fire Station 5. A domestic altercation involving the owner’s family was the cause, allegedly resulting in a homicide.
