Fire alarms and sirens woke residents of Clisby Towers at about 3:50 a.m. Friday.
A pot of food on the stove in the main kitchen of the first floor was left unattended and created a lot of smoke on the first floor, said Capt. Nathaniel Hall of the Macon-Bibb County Fire Department.
Firefighters used fans to clear the air, but there was no actual fire, Hall said.
Several people evacuated outside, but no one was hurt.
