A South Hall Middle School sixth-grader was struck by a car this morning as he was stepping off his driveway to approach a bus.

Christian Espitia was discharged from the emergency room at Northeast Georgia Medical Center this afternoon, said Melissa Tymchuk, a hospital spokeswoman.

The accident took place at 7:39 a.m., when bus driver Gary Pritchard was approaching the stop at 3450 Sugar Hill Way in the Princeton Subdivision, said Gordon Higgins, spokesman for the Hall County school system.

As a car tried to pass the bus on the left, the student was beginning to step off his driveway in anticipation of the bus’ arrival. The car struck him, knocking him to the pavement, Higgins said.

Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said Espitia was struck by the car’s side mirror and had nonlife-threatening injuries to his foot.
