Motorists can expect some traffic slowdowns this week on West Ponce near the post office.
Last Friday, work crews started tearing up the sidewalk in the 600 block of West Ponce de Leon Avenue. The work will cover the area from Nelson Ferry Road to Pinetree Road.
The sidewalk will be replaced and new curbing installed. City officials said the poor state of the sidewalk and curbings had created a hazard for pedestrians, bicylists and motorists.
While the work is under way, one lane of traffic on West Ponce will be closed in front of the the First Christian Church of Decatur.
