The pairing is set in the Republican runoff in the 12th Congressional District: Lee Anderson vs. Rick Allen.
Anderson, a state representative from Grovetown, and Allen, the CEO of an Augusta construction firm, were the top finishers in the July 31 primary. A third candidate, Augusta attorney Wright McLeod, finished close enough to Allen for the No. 2 spot to request Thursday’s recount.
The count changed only a handful of votes, leaving Anderson and Allen on the ballot for the Aug. 21 runoff.
The winner will face U.S. Rep. John Barrow, an Augusta Democrat, in a district newly drawn to lean Republican.
