Zoning is the mid term key to changing positively Brookhaven property values and public safety.
Since a few of y’all are longtime ‘Havenites recall the tenements along Briarcliff were once decent, except for the nameless horror on Buford Highway and Briarcliff that was always a slumlords dream. Hallmark, and a Tempo Continental were nice enough for college professors to call home.
Those days are gone, but the properties are valuable for re-development, when the market is ready to support. If Brookhaven enacts tough code requiring a higher construction grade, it will cost more to build – Connect the dots, who might oppose that concept?
What happened?
The owners were allowed to slip into non-compliance. The Code is there, the Dekalb authorities could enforce it, but that is nearly impossible given EVEN WORSE violations exist elsewhere. Rundown
