Sunday, June 3rd 2012 turned out to be a momentous day for the leader of St. Paul’s Episcopal Church in Southwest Atlanta. This was not to be his last sermon to his growing congregation, but it was the first sermon since he was announced as the next Episcopal Church Bishop of Atlanta.
The Very Reverend Wright will be the Episcopal church’s 10th bishop and the first ever African-American.
The St. Paul’s congregation stood up and gave him a round of applause to both congratulate him and thank him for the 10 years of service that he gave to their church. Rev. Wright said, “only God, could have made this happen.” He told his congregation that the work of St. Paul’s “must carry on. Leaders come and go, you must turn the page and continue.”
