Mayor Robert Reicherts administration has selected a new site for Macons Central Services Department and spent Tuesday afternoon trying to convince City Council members to spend $672,500 on it.
The councils five-member Public Properties Committee and several other council members toured the 42,000-square-foot building at 1000 Seventh St. That has long been home to Macon Transfer Co., from which the Herin family sold furniture and smaller items until it closed last year.
Theyve been more or less out of business for about six months, said Art Barry, an agent for Coldwell Banker Commercial Eberhardt Barry.
