A stop early Saturday morning to check an abandoned car on Interstate 75 led to the discovery of a body that had been struck by several vehicles, Georgia State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said.
Authorities on Tuesday identified the deceased as Shannon Larry Chumbler, 37, of Cumming.
On Saturday, April 21, around 1:35 a.m., a deputy with the Bartow County Sheriff’s Office pulled to the side of I-75 northbound near Glade Road in Acworth and saw Chumbler’s body in a travel lane. Authorities say oncoming traffic had hit the man multiple times, but it also appears he was in a travel lane on initial impact.
Investigators believe the first vehicle to strike the person is larger, possibly a big truck. Agencies in the area have been alerted to be on the lookout for a larger vehicle with damage
