Betty Leedom, who founded organized girls softball in Lawrence Township 56 years ago, will throw out the first pitch at a tournament that bears her name today, Thursday, July 12, at 6 p.m. at Colavita Field in Lawrence’s Central Park athletic complex.
The Lawrence Junior Baseball and Softball Association (LTJBSA) is currently hosting a girls 11- and 12-year old softball invitational called the Betty Leedom Tournament.
The double-elimination tournament includes six area teams representing leagues from greater Mercer County including Lawrence, West Windsor, Cranbury-Plainsboro, West End (Trenton), and Robbinsville, as well as Morrisville, Pa. All games are being played at Colavita Field.
The tournament honors the legacy of Ms. Leedom, a Lawrence Township softball legend. Ms. Leedom started a girls softball league in Lawrence in 1956, as
