Incumbents Pat Gardner and Rashad Taylor will face off in what is expected to be a heated race for the District 57 seat in the Georgia House of Representatives.
Gardner and Taylor are forced to run for the same seat after legislators redrew district boundaries statewide last year.
Gardner, 72, has represented District 57 for nearly 12 years.
The district historically included many Northeast Atlanta neighborhoods including Morningside and Virginia-Highland.
The new boundaries start near Morningside, include a portion of Virginia-Highland and Midtown and run south to the Cascade area.
Taylor, 31, currently represents District 55, which includes portions of Northwest and Southwest Atlanta.
The Democratic Primary is set for July 31, 2012. Stick with Patch for more info on this race and other local races in the weeks to come.
