A former public information officer for the Gwinnett County Police Department resigned today after being charged in Barrow County two weeks ago with pandering, or soliciting a prostitute, according to a GCPD news release.
Cpl. Brian Kelly of GCPD was arrested on May 31, 2012 by the Barrow County Sheriff’s Office. Gwinnett Police learned of this arrest on June 11.
“It was determined that Kelly had not reported that he was an officer to Barrow County, nor did he report his arrest to this agency,” said GCPD public information officer Cpl. Jake Smith in a released statement.
Officers of the Gwinnett County Police Department are required to immediately report arrests to their supervisors, Smith added. As a result of his failure to report the arrest, Kelly was served with a letter of intent to terminate his employment. Kelly resigned in lieu of the termination Tuesday
