SAVANNAH, GA –
Its a sight you don’t see very often in Savannah, more than two dozen of the U-S Air Force’s top fighter planes on the tarmac every day.
350 members of the 1st Operational Fighter Group from Langley Air Force Base, Virginia are near the end of five weeks here while their home runway is being rebuilt.
At roughly 150 million dollars per plane, the F22 is the most capable fighter in the nation’s arsenal.
It allows one pilot to fly the plane and use all the on-board weapons systems. A task so complicated older planes required two people to do the work.
The Raptor is stealthy, too. Missiles are shut up inside the body of the aircraft until they’re needed, and even the gold-colored cockpit canopy helps deflect radar waves so the enemy can’t detect the plane
