With a generous donation from an anonymous benefactor, the Expanding Horizons Program began in 2006, coordinated by the Acworth Parks and Recreation Department. Nearly seven years later, the program continues to thrive as it recently received another contribution to help fund the program through 2013.
Expanding Horizons takes local youths on educational field trips throughout the school year that they may not otherwise be able to afford. The program covers all cost related to transportation, food, and admission into the various sites.
In recent years, Acworth youths participating in the program have visited Chattanooga, Cape Canaveral, St. Louis, Kansas City and New York City, and this year, Expanding Horizons plans to take a small group to Washington D.C. for a second time.
