The Dresden East Civic Association (DECA) has endorsed the annexation of its community into the city of Chamblee.
According to the organization’s Yahoo! group page, its board of directors approved a motion supporting the annexation this past Monday night.
The motion passed by a vote of 8-3.
The referendum extending Chamblee’s boundaries south to roughly the Clairmont Road and I-85 interchange will be held on Nov. 6.
The organization said annexing into Chamblee will offer more local control and better services than continuing to reside in unincorporated DeKalb.
Brookhaven’s recent incorporation is also mentioned in DECA’s endorsement. “Once Brookhaven becomes a city, if we do not annex into Chamblee we will be an ‘unincorporated island’ surrounded by other cities and I-85, which could further reduce the level of service we receive from DeKalb County.”
