April 20 was Alzheimer’s Awareness game night on the Dacula High School soccer fields. Purple balloons decorated the stands, purple lines were painted on the field, both of the boys’ and girls’ varsity soccer teams wore purple jerseys, and they even played with purple game balls.

“It was a purple night,” said Jason Guzzardo, head coach of the varsity girls’ soccer team. “The purpose of the night was to promote awareness for the Alzheimer’s Association. Organizations like this are often overlooked. This is something unique that not a lot of the schools do. When we brought up the idea, there were a lot of people within our soccer program and our community that thought it was wonderful because many of them had a parent or grandparent who had or was suffering from Alzheimer’s.
