Atlanta City Council President Ceasar C. Mitchell is set to announce the formation of a 30-day task force that will address the trend of crime on college campuses.
The task force is a follow-up action from a meeting held between Mitchell and campus representatives from metro Atlanta colleges and universities, including Georgia State, Georgia Tech and the Atlanta University Center.
Crime on and around Tech’s campus has been highly profiled in the news of late. This week at a public safety-related press conference in the Home Park neighborhood across the street from the campus, Mayor Kasim Reed said, “Georgia Tech … really is an essential element to the City of Atlanta’s success. So to the extent that Georgia Tech has a problem, Atlanta has a problem.”
