Taxpayers are paying to light a school in Dunwoody that’s been closed for six years, 11Alive reports.

The DeKalb school district keeps the lights burning at Chamblee Middle School – even during the day – to ensure safety and protection.

District spokesman Walter Woods said that it was a “very minimal” cost to the district to keep some utilities running at the school, located on Chamblee Dunwoody Road.

A reporter asked why the lights at the school weren’t set on a timer so that they weren’t on during the day.

The district, which proposed a budget this week that would include a tax increase, hasn’t decided what to do with the building.
