The election season is officially underway with all 2012 Forsyth County candidates, all Republican, qualifying, according to the Voter Registrations Elections department. No candidates qualified with the Democratic Party.

There was one brief bump in the road in regards to the candidates running for sheriff. Questions were raised over whether or not all of the Republican candidates, incumbent Sheriff Ted Paxton , and challengers Duane Piper and Lauren McDonald, qualified as candidates for the race.
But by late Tuesday the matter was settled with Barbara Luth, supervisor of Forsyth County Voter Registrations and Elections department saying all three candidates will appear on the July 31 ballot.
Candidates running for state and federal offices also qualified.
