Jace Brooks and Laurie McClain qualified for the District 1 seat on the Gwinnett County Commission to replace Shirley Lasseter, who had announced that she is not seeking re-election. Brooks and McClain will both run as Republicans in the July 31 GOP Primary. The winner will represent Duluth and Suwanee on the commission.
Brooks is an outgoing Suwanee City Council member, and McClain, a Duluth resident, has a Suwanee accounting business.
Gwinnett Board of Commissioners Chairman Charlotte Nash of Dacula also qualified as a Republican. She has raised more than $30,000 toward re-election.
Brooks and McClain already have been actively campaigning and fund-raising. Brooks has raised over $12,000, and McClain has raised over $9,000. Nash has no opposition. No Democratic opposition has surfaced for Brooks and McClain.
