The city of Auburn invites residents to continue a celebration that began Saturday. 

The Auburn Independence Day Celebration will resume at 5 p.m. today with a continuation of family fun, food, games, music and a carnival, complete with rides. The event will culminate with fireworks beginning at dark. 

A chain saw wood carver will also be on hand, and event attendees can watch him work then consider selecting a piece to purchase.

The city asks that residents make preparations for the high temperatures, as a heat advisory is in effect through 9 p.m. today. Heat index values peak during the afternoon through mid-evening. 

The National Weather Service urges residents to drink plenty of water and stay out of direct sunlight. The elderly, young children and people with heart conditions are most at risk during extreme heat.
