A new $30 million Global Research and Technology Center expected to bring 140 jobs to the Kennesaw area will open its doors during a ceremony Friday morning.
Novelis, the world’s largest supplier of rolled aluminum, announced in May of last year its plans to open the 60,000-square-foot facility at 1950 Vaughn Rd. in Kennesaw.
According to a release, the center will develop new products and applications for the automotive, can and electronics industries in collaboration with customers like Jaguar, Coca-Cola and Samsung.
The new center features testing laboratories and a pilot beverage canning line. Future plans include a small-scale aluminum rolling mill, the release said.
To celebrate the occasion, Gov. Nathan Deal and Kennesaw Mayor Mark Mathews have proclaimed June 15 Aluminum Recycling Day. Friday’s 11:30 a.m. ceremony will also include the unveiling of an aluminum transformer-like statue
